To get started, consider some of the steps below:

• Contact a participating lender to determine the maximum mortgage amount you can afford using the N.C. Housing Finance Agency's FirstHome Mortgage.
  
  
• Find a home that suits your needs and that meets the program's requirements. A real estate agent can help you find a home and negotiate the contract. Our Preferred Real Estate Professionals are licensed agents who have taken our "Financing Dreams" class and are familiar with FirstHome Mortgage.
  
  
• Apply for the mortgage at a participating lender.
