How Do I Get Started?
Congratulations on your decision to purchase your first home! The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency is here to assist you every step of the way on the path to home ownership.
To get started, consider some of the steps below:
- Contact a participating lender to determine the maximum mortgage amount you can afford using the N.C. Housing Finance Agency's FirstHome Mortgage.
- Find a home that suits your needs and that meets the program's requirements. A real estate agent can help you find a home and negotiate the contract. Our Preferred Real Estate Professionals are licensed agents who have taken our "Financing Dreams" class and are familiar with FirstHome Mortgage.
- Apply for the mortgage at a participating lender.
- Also, see our "Home Buying Tips.”
Owning your own home does not have to be a dream. Since 1973, we have helped 80,000 people buy their first homes — teachers, technicians, salespeople, construction workers, cooks and firefighters. We may be able to help you.
