Simuel (Sim) Hodges, controller and manager of financial systems at the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, has received the 2018 State Controller’s Fiscal Integrity Award, representing the highest level of ethical service.

This annual award is presented to a state employee or agency that demonstrates a record of exemplary adherence to the ethical principals of fiscal integrity, has worked to sustain open government and has earned a reputation for fairness and service to citizens of North Carolina.

Hodges has been in accounting for 33 years, starting in the private sector and beginning his public service career in 1988 as chief accountant for the City of Greenville. Following that position, Hodges worked as a financial analyst and system administrator for the Private Diagnostic Clinic, Duke University Medical Center for two years before joining the NC Housing Finance Agency in 1996 as a senior accountant. The following year, he was promoted to controller and has served in this position for 21 years, assuming the additional responsibility of manager of financial systems in 2010.

“We are excited, but not surprised, that Sim has been selected for this prestigious award,” said Scott Farmer, executive director of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency.

“Sim is uncompromising in the critical areas of internal controls, grant compliance and proper application of accounting principles and his focus on his work and service to the state is unwavering. During his 22 years at the Agency, Sim has been a beacon of integrity, honesty, transparency and public service, and we are thrilled that he is receiving this honor.”
