In August, NeighborWorks America and Enterprise launched the Health Outcomes Demonstration Project which shows the impact of affordable housing and community development on health outcomes. This new national initiative provides 20 nonprofits nationwide with grant funding, technical assistance and health measurement tools to help them show the social, economic, and environmental impacts of their work and how those impacts lead to improved health outcomes for affordable housing residents.

The Health Outcomes Demonstration Project will disseminate its results and make their health measurement tools available to the public in September. To read more about the positive impacts of affordable housing on health, please see the NC Housing Finance Agency report, Affordable Housing Benefits Health. And don’t miss David J. Erickson, director of community development at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, who will discuss the need for affordable housing development to work in concert with health, education and public safety initiatives at this year’s NC Affordable Housing Conference, Oct. 25-26.
