Report Finds Housing and Education Segregation Interrelated

Enterprise released a report last week evaluating the connections between housing and education and examining how segregation in both impedes children from realizing their academic potential. Citing recent data from the Government Accountability Office that shows that the number of segregated schools doubled between 2001 and 2014, the report notes that while school system policies can play a role in segregation, so does housing. Report authors discussed the impact of housing affordability, availability, discriminatory policies and practices and zoning regulations on segregation and conclude with a call for the housing and education sectors to work to address this issue and improve children’s educational outcomes.
