Nearly 500 representatives of the state’s affordable housing industry will share the essentials of creating and managing affordable housing to build thriving communities, Oct. 11, at a Housing Forum hosted by the N.C. Housing Finance Agency at the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.

Former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros will keynote the event at 9:30 a.m. Cisneros will discuss American CityVista of San Antonio, TX. Cisneros is chairman and CEO of American CityVista, which leverages private, public and nonprofit resources to invest in center cities. Its mission is to empower low- and moderate-income families to build wealth and improve their quality of life through home ownership.

Other highlights:

  • Winners of the 16th annual Housing North Carolina Awards will be honored during the Forum’s luncheon. This year’s awards recognize outstanding home ownership, rental and supportive housing developments statewide.
  • How-to sessions will focus on educating first-time home buyers incentives that can help them save, helping seniors to “age in place,” funding the operating costs of supportive housing, and persuading neighbors to welcome affordable housing developments in their communities.
  • In-depth sessions will show rental developers how they can use federal housing credits, which financed 25% of all the rental housing built in North Carolina last year.

Registration fees are $85 on or before September 26; $100 thereafter. The agenda and registration forms are available at www.nchfa.com.
