Statewide Forum on Affordable Housing Will Feature National Experts, NC Treasurer Moore

Four hundred members of North Carolina’s affordable housing industry will meet Oct. 16 and 17 for the N.C. Housing Finance Agency’s fourth annual Housing Forum at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Research Triangle Park. Participants will include developers, lenders, nonprofit organizations, builders, funders, and advocates.

Highlights include:

  • Rey Ramsey, CEO, One Economy Corporation of Washington, DC and Portland, Oregon. (Oct. 16, 11:20 a.m.)
  • Ramsey’s nonprofit corporation focuses on ways to use the Internet to leverage capital and information for the benefit of low-income people.
  • Barbara Thompson, Executive Director, National Council of State Housing Finance Agencies. (Oct. 16, 10:00 a.m.)
  • Thompson will report on the prospect for federal housing legislation.
  • N.C. Treasurer Richard Moore. (Oct. 16, 9:45 a.m.)
  • Tools for Affordable Housing (Oct. 16, 1:45 – 5:00 p.m., Oct 17, 8:30 – 11:45 a.m.)Panel discussions on obtaining resources to develop affordable housing, using tax credits to develop rental housing, adopting design standards for affordable homeownership and rental developments, and using affordable home ownership to revitalize neighborhoods.
  • The 12th annual Housing North Carolina Awards (Oct. 17, noon)Six North Carolina properties will be recognized as models of affordable rental development, homeownership subdivisions, supportive housing for persons with special needs, and flood rebuilding. The winning developments are located in Boone, Charlotte, Davidson, Greenville, Raleigh, and Wilmington.
