There has been a lot written about the extraordinary challenges and struggles of the evacuees from Hurricane Katrina who have resettled in our area. Many evacuees benefited from the tireless work done by volunteers at the Wake County Emergency Shelter. It was a proud effort by our community.

Several staff of the N.C. Housing Finance Agency worked at the Emergency Shelter and we want to acknowledge the great job done at the shelter by Wake County’s Department of Human Services, under the leadership of Gibby Harris, the Community Health Director. The county staff successfully organized the complex integration of services for those in need and they have really earned our appreciation.
