Mortgages for First-Time Buyers, Urgent Repair Options Presented at Housing Workshop

Low-wealth persons trying to buy their first home and homeowners struggling to make urgent repairs can learn about North Carolina Housing Finance Agency programs that may help them at the Hoke County Housing Financial Workshop on February 24, 10:00 a.m.-Noon.

Sponsored by state Rep. Garland Pierce, the workshop will include an overview of the Agency’s below-market interest rate mortgage programs and downpayment assistance. In addition, the workshop will explain how the Agency’s Urgent Repair Program could help owners needing emergency repairs or accessibility modifications.

Highlights:

FirstHome Mortgage and Rural Opportunity Mortgage
Learn about the Agency’s 30-year, fixed-rate FirstHome Mortgage at 5⅝ % interest 
(100% financing available). Buyers may qualify with incomes as high as $60,500 in Hoke, Robeson and Scotland Counties (for a family of three) and for homes with sales prices up to $185,000. Buyers who don’t qualify for FirstHome Mortgage may be eligible for a Rural Opportunity Mortgage. Representatives from the N.C. Housing Finance Agency will present.   

Urgent Repair Program
Learn how the Urgent Repair Program provides grants for emergency home repairs  for conditions that threaten health and safety for elderly homeowners and other homeowners with special needs whose household incomes are below 50% of the median. The funds may also be used for accessibility modifications. Dennis Bowen, aging director at Hoke County Senior Services, will present. Hoke County Senior Services has received funding from the Agency to address urgent repair needs in Hoke County and the surrounding area.
