North Carolinians seeking affordable housing may now get help through the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency’s updated Web site, www.nchfa.com. The new site offers special sections for low- and moderate-income home buyers and renters.

First-time home buyers can access information about the agency’s low-cost, zero-down payment mortgages and downpayment assistance, home buying tips and mortgage calculators. By clicking on a map, buyers can find out which lenders offer N.C. Housing Finance Agency mortgages in their county and what income and sales price limits apply to them. (For example, buyers will learn that a family of three living anywhere in the state can qualify with an income up to $60,500. Income limits in metropolitan areas such as Raleigh are higher.)

Low-income renters can search an Affordable Apartment Locator to find rental apartments that the N.C. Housing Finance Agency has financed statewide. Those requiring special services can search a Supportive Housing Locator.

The Web site also includes sections for lenders, real estate agents, home builders, rental developers, and nonprofit agencies and local governments.

The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency is a self-supporting state agency that has financed nearly $9 billion of homes and apartments. Its First-Time Home Buyer Mortgages have enabled 67,000 families and individuals to purchase homes.
