A frame-raising ceremony will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. for Ellsworth Commons, a 68-unit development for seniors. The community is being developed by Workforce Homestead, Inc., of Tryon, and Align Development, LLC, of Wake Forest, using Housing Credits awarded by the NC Housing Finance Agency, and its development is expected to support 183 jobs.

Ellsworth Commons will feature six buildings comprising one- and two-bedroom apartments. The apartments will serve individuals with incomes at $22,980 or below.  (Income limits vary based on household size.) Ellsworth Commons will include a community building with a kitchen, computer center, library, exercise room, hair salon and laundry room. Exterior amenities include raised garden beds and a gazebo. The apartment community’s location in the Bent Tree neighborhood provides easy access to medical facilities, shopping and dining.

The $8.1 million development was financed in large part by federal and state tax credits awarded by the NC Housing Finance Agency.  The Agency finances the statewide construction of affordable rental apartments using federal and state housing credits, low-interest loans, and tax-exempt bond allocations. In addition, the Agency administers the state’s 25-year-old Housing Trust Fund, which provides loans for development of rental apartments.

“Ellsworth Commons will make a real difference for lower income seniors in Greenville by providing a comfortable, safe and affordable community,” said Bob Kucab, executive director of the NC Housing Finance Agency.
